PATCH NOTES: Dragoneaters Demo #1 Ver 1.2.0
Dragoneaters (FREE Demo) » Devlog
Hey everyone! A bit later than I had planned, but update 1.2.0 for the initial demo is OUT NOW!
I spent my time implementing some of the most highly-requested features, so I hope you all like it! There's not quite as much new content this time around, but that's largely where my focus is going to be going forward. Please take a look at the patch notes and give the update a spin!
Also, if you're able, please consider supporting on Ko-Fi! https://ko-fi.com/lunalyndragon
New Features
- Toggle for Showing Bones
- Added alternative imagery (e.g. “ghosts”) in places where they were used in the UI
- Proper Button Prompts!
- These will automatically swap between Keyboard and Controller style based on what you’re using.
- To change the type of Controller Buttons shown, go into the options in the main menu or the pause menu and change them to your preferred style (XB, PS, NS styles are supported).
- Particles/sound to indicate an enemy preparing to attack or grab
- Stick movement
- Added dialogue from the permavored character once you accept the permavore C:<
- Controller rumble feature added (XInput only, sadly :( blame GameMaker, not me!)
- Added “Scene Art”
- Now, when talking to a “Boss Pred” (with the exception of the first Budgie Girl, but I may add scene art for her at a later date), you will see “Scene Art” of them. Some of them are pulled from pre-existing images, others are all new art.
- Added a clock to the game to keep track of your total playtime on each file (this could have some fun uses later on ;P)
- Customized Game!
- You can choose your starting character, and choose whether to watch Lunalyn be permavored by them, or just go straight to the game and have Luna added to the Perma log
- You can also choose “quick start” to skip the loop around the left side of the cave. You will start with the dagger, as well as the dash and wing upgrades.
- “Generic” Perma Preds (currently only the Budgie Girl, more will be added in the future) can be given a custom name!
- Known issue: If a character’s name is too long, it will get hidden behind the weapon icon on the HUD. The HUD will be adjusted at a later date to accommodate for this.
- More features will be added at a later date!
- Please do not report issues with dialogue in custom games. I will try to make it work as seamlessly as possible in the future, but it’s not a high concern at the moment.
Changes
- Add version number check to saved data and start putting newly added variables behind said checks
- When eaten by the mimic, you now mash “JUMP” to break free to maintain consistency with other preds.
- ESC now opens the menu as well as the enter key
- In the CONTROLS/OPTIONS menu, since the ESC key is now the pause/unpause key, the OPTIONS submenu key has been changed to Left Shift.
- The keyboard key for restarting after being digested by a non-perma enemy is now “V”, to maintain consistency.
- Adjusted weapon hitboxes to make it easier to hit enemies from above
- Can now save over other file slots
- Can now delete saves from the main menu
- Adjusted digestion damage. When you are above 10hp, an enemy can deal more damage to you while digesting you if their CON and ATK stats are higher than your DEF and DEX stats.
- As a balancing adjustment to accommodate for this, preds now only restore 1HP for every damage tick.
- Game will now automatically select the last loaded file when going to the file select screen
Bugfixes
- You can no longer phase through vines with a moving attack to skip parts of the game.
- While I generally enjoy leaving in sequence breaks, this one was way too easy to perform and broke way too many aspects of the game.
- Added an additional safeguard to hopefully address issues with enemies grabbing you, getting hit, and leaving you in the “grabbed” state
- Unpausing while in the volume slider menu no longer leaves the sliders on the screen during gameplay (lol)
- Adjusted nameplates and dialogue choices so that the text doesn’t clip outside of them when they are too long
